Search for Items and Shops

You can use the main search bar to look for items or shops.

As you type your search, you’ll see suggestions for search terms, categories, and subcategories. If you choose the top suggestion, that will search All items.

Search for shops

• If you search for the exact shop name (without spaces), you'll be brought directly to the shop.

• If someone has tagged their items with something that matches the shop name, you'll see those items, but there will be a link to get to the shop near the top or bottom of the page.

• You can also use the shop search page.

• Entering this web address in your browser's address bar will also take you to a shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/shopname. Replace "shopname" with the actual shop name.

• If you enter part of a shop name, you'll see a link to search shop names that include what you searched for at the bottom of the search results.

Note: The search function picks up words at the beginning and end of your shop name. If you search for a word that appears in the middle of your shop name, it may not work.

If you know the member's name, try people search. This only works if the name the member displays on their profile is the name you enter.

Search for items

Here are a few tips to help you search for items on Etsy:

• Use multiple, descriptive terms in a search to narrow down the results. For example: "green knit scarf" will return fewer, more specific results than just "scarf."

• Use a minus sign (-) in front of a word to exclude that term from your search. For example: "dress -red" will exclude any dresses tagged with "red."

• Enclose a word or phrase in quotation marks to look for items that only have that exact word or phrase. For example, "sterling silver" will return results that only have that exact phrase. Items with "sterling" and "silver" used separately won't appear.

By default, search results are ordered by how relevant the items are to what you search for. You can change the order of your search results with the Sort by option above the search results.

Using filters

On the left side of every search results page, you’ll see a list of options to narrow down your results. Filter items by:

• Category
• Items on sale
• Shop location
• Handmade or Vintage items
• Price
• Color
• Ordering options
• "Ship to" country

When using the Ordering options menu, you can limit your search to customizable orders, or to items only in shops that accept Etsy Gift Cards or Etsy Credits.
